Mardi Gras began in 1998 with one simple idea: sandals built from leather we understood completely, because we made it ourselves.

We have always had the privilege of managing the quality of our leather — from tannery to finished sandal. That's a rare thing in Indian footwear – not many brands can say it – and it's the foundation everything else is built on.

We design footwear to be lived in—not only saved for special occasions—although some of our styles are great for those too! Our pieces get better with wear, and move with you through real days, not just good photos. For us, quality means comfort with style, never sacrificing one for the other.

OUR TANNERY & FACTORY

All of our products are made at our family-owned tannery and factory based outside of Kanpur and Haridwar, in India. Our tannery and factory is Leather Working Group and ISO Certified, and our CSR efforts support local initiatives across Kanpur.

WE KNOW SHOES

Our tannery has been crafting leather since 1991 — three decades of hands-on expertise. We brought that experience to footwear in 1998, when Mardi Gras was born, and it's what lets us create the jazz of Mardi Gras. We hope you love our footwear as much as we do.

OUR PLANET

We operate our tannery and factory with the highest standards. We are Leather Working Group Gold & ISO:9001 Certified. Our CSR efforts support projects such as:

  • ETF Plants: We only utilise approved products in the tanning process and our effluent treatment plants ensure effective water treatment.
  • Our Green Area: Our tannery and factory has a large green area and every visitor gets to plant a sapling in our gardens.
  • Food Forest & Organic Agriculture: Part of our tannery and factory campus includes a food forest.
  • Renewable & Natural Energy: We have our own solar panels to support energy production and we reduce energy usage where possible, for example by air-drying and sun-drying our leathers.

OUR MAKERS

Our factory exists because of the people who make it happen every day—from working the leather, to crafting the shoes and bags, to keeping the chai flowing. Here’s how we support our craftspeople:

  • Scholarships: We support school tuition for some of our employees’ children, and each year we aim to support more and more families and children.
  • Fresh Canteen Lunch: Subsidized meals made with produce sourced from our own farming and food-forest efforts.
